In this appointment we will spend one hour with you providing comprehensive care no matter what lactation and feeding issues you’re experiencing. Here’s what that looks like:

Review & Assess

Review you & your baby’s health history for anything impacting lactation & feeding
Understand your goals and create a breastfeeding plan to support those goals together
Assess your baby’s latch, oral skills, swallowing, and overall feeding mechanics
Assess your breast health, lactation status, feeding techniques, and overall well-being

Examine & Treat

Provide interventions to improve lactation & feeding
Re-assess their effects of these interventions for effectiveness
Provide a treatment plan that is concise, addresses the core issues, clarifies expectations going forward, and meets everyone’s needs

Guide & Support

Ensure you have the information you need to be more confident & capable with breastfeeding going forward
Confirm your goals and agree on the treatment plan
Offer follow-up support and revise the treatment plan as needed

Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance cover my appointments with you?

Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, lactation care is now covered by most insurance plans. Telehealth appointments are eligible for coverage. To find out what your plan will cover specifically, contact your insurance company directly and ask about your lactation benefits, as well as coverage for out-of-network providers.

Do you offer in-person appointments?

We only offer telehealth appointments. Our clients find that we are able to do everything we’d normally do if we were face-to-face except weigh your baby. We have specialized in virtual care since way before the pandemic and will guide you on the best ways to utilize video before & during our appointment with you.

How do video appointments work?

We provide instructions on sending us any relevant photos and videos before your appointment, as well as completing our intake forms so we have a lot of information by the time we meet. You can use your smartphone, tablet or computer to connect for your appointment. It’s very helpful to have another person nearby to assist with holding the camera. It’s also a good idea to have a flashlight on hand if there’s a possibility we will conduct an oral exam of your baby.

What if I can’t book an appointment with the IBCLC I wanted?

We work as a team at Holistic Lactation. This means when you work with one of our lactation consultants, you work with all of our lactation consultants. Our entire team has experience teaching other lactation professionals, plus decades of collective experience as IBCLCs. This means you get the benefit of multiple lactation consultants when you become a client.
